vs. Microsoft SharePoint Conference

We have been getting questions from people trying to decide which conference is for them.

The most important difference is the intended audience.  The Microsoft conference is geared toward a technical audience (IT/administrator). The SharePoint Information Worker conference is for business people who want to learn how other companies are applying MOSS 2007 to business problems.

Looking at the detailed session descriptions for IWC/08 will help you understand exactly what to expect.

Microsoft has yet to publish session descriptions (as of 1/9/2008) but the conference description as well as the descriptions of the tracks help you to understand the intended audience.

Microsoft SharePoint Conference Audience (from FAQ):

• "The (Microsoft) SharePoint conference is primarily intended for those in IT who use, deploy, and configure SharePoint. If you are focused on SharePoint deployment, or want to expand your skills in this area, you should attend the (Microsoft) SharePoint Conference."

There is a Business Applications and Solutions track at the Microsoft conference. The description (on the tracks page) reads:

• "This track is all about building business applications and solutions on the SharePoint platform. From building and integrating workflow into business processes to using SharePoint Designer to quickly build applications to using the Business Data Catalog to interoperate with LOB applications, this track will cover the different possibilities of building and deploying custom applications and solutions on the SharePoint Server platform."

Don't get us wrong, we're not saying the Microsoft conference will not be good. If you are in IT or if you are focused on deployment, it is the conference for you.  Why not attend both? We'll be there... If you do attend drop by and say hi.
