  Is there any way to get the New Document button in the SharePoint 2010 ribbon to create a new document using the Office Web Applications instead of the Office 2010 full client program?

  According to the official Office Web Apps blog at Microsoft, the answer is "no" IF YOU HAVE OFFICE CLIENT INSTALLED ON THE PC. If you don't have the Office Client installed, the new document will be created using the appropriate Office Web App.
