About Me

Ricky Spears is an instructor and author for SharePoint Solutions. He has authored many popular SharePoint courses over the 7+ years he has worked with SharePoint technologies. Most recently he authored the Introduction to SharePoint Server 2010 courses (both the end-user and server administrtor classes) and regularly teaches the InfoPath and SharePoint 2010 Workflow Deep Dive class (he wrote the original InfoPath and Workflow class for SharePoint 2007). He has taught SharePoint to thousands of students at some of the largest organizations in the world, including: AMD, BMW, Boeing, BP, Citigroup, Dell, U.S Army, U.S. Air Force, and hundreds of others. He is a Microsoft Certified IT Professional SharePoint 2010 Administrtor and is regularly invited to Redmond, WA to train Microsoft’s employees how to use SharePoint.

Prior to joining SharePoint Solutions he worked as the Senior Webmaster for Allegacy Federal Credit Union where he designed and built the organization’s first intranet, and later migrated it to the SharePoint platform. Ricky’s focus in business has always been on process improvement and automation for both the employees and customers of an organization.

Ricky’s personal mission statement is, “Empower. Challenge. Advance.” He says, “The work we do every day is ultimately all about people. My goal is to use technology, and my God given talents, to challenge and empower people so they can advance in every aspect of their life and business.”

    Ricard – When I've run into this situation, I usually find that the easiest way to handle it is to write a workflow with SharePoint Designer that will copy the value in the Calculated column to a coloum with the proper data type and have it run whenever the item changes.

    Ken – Can you edit anything in Datasheet view? For example, if you create a custom list (and don't add any other data fields or anything), can you add and edit entries on that list in Datasheet view?
